Notes on Frame

Maintain a medium oval frame, slightly larger than a typical latin frame (e.g. Rumba) but smaller than a typical ballroom frame (e.g. Waltz), keeping elbows up and level from one side to the next. Keep shoulders slightly forward of the torso, and maintain a solid but not rigid connection with your partner. The man's left hand should be at approximately the lady's eye level and his right centered on her shoulder blade. The lady's left hand should oppose the man's right shoulder. Partners should position themselves directly in front of one another.

Notes on Footwork

All steps should be taken on the balls of the feet but without any cuban hip motion. Side steps should be large and elongated, stretching the side of the direction of movment to create a slight sway. Heels should stay in contact with the ground but should not bear any significant weight. Feet should always be in contact with the floor. A very slight smooth bouncing motion may optionally be added, depending on taste.

Notes on Movement

Traditionally this dance travels around a medium circular range but may also be walked around the whole dance floor. When traveling, keep to the outer right and move counterclockwise around the floor, being careful not to collide with other couples.

Practice Points

Rather than doing the back rock on each basic, at first beginners may opt to simply bring their feet together. This will eliminate any problems created by one partner's pulling the other off balance on the rock. Add the rock-step back in when the pattern has begun to feel more familiar. Frame can be varied to taste. Hands can be kept low near waist level, high as in Foxtrot, or tucked in for a more intimate look. The more variety of patterns dancers use, the better the frame connection needs to be, such that more advanced dancers will tend toward a more formal frame.

Recommendations

The Nightclub is a versatile dance, when it comes to music, and can comfortably be danced to both faster or slower music. It's basic structure is relatively relaxed when compared to other more formal dances, making it a good slow dance for beginners. Developed in country western circles, Nightclub Two Step, also known as the Nightclub, is generally danced to slow country music, although other styles with comparable beats per minute are also a possibility. Given its recent rise to the spotlight, Nightclub is not danced in as many venues as other ballroom dances and may, therefore, be of limited social benefit.
